Wonder what he'll dream....

When we put him to bed, he was wearing pajamas... when I came up to bed and looked in on him, this is what I saw:

World According to Alexander

Me: I said you could not wear my dress, Alexander.
Alexander: I'm not wearing it, I'm just carrying it on my body.

Will the pee never end?

Right now, I am hoping this baby inside me is a girl. Because at least when girls go potty, it goes straight down. Right, parents of girls??

Jack has decided to potty-train himself. I'm really pretty serious. I could tell he was just about ready to start training, but I wanted to wait just a few weeks until we were into the swing of things with school and we had gotten past a flurry of frequent doctor appointments (they will space out more soon, until they get more frequent again towards the end.) In any case, the child basically just started taking off his diaper, going into the bathroom, climbing up on the toilet himself, and doing his business pretty much every time he tries! He still goes in his diaper quite often, but when we start potty-training in earnest, I think that'll stop pretty quickly. Last night he got to the point where he was refusing to put a diaper back on, and that is what he's done now, too. But these darn boys and their penises! "Point it down!" I say, to no avail, as pee flies across the bathroom.

Alexander STILL has no aim. Half the time he pees, it's ALL over the seat. Sometimes he gets extra crazy and pees on the toilet shelf, the wall, the floor, and/or the trash can.

Seriously. I am tired of cleaning up pee. I want a girl this time. A girl who pees straight down.

(Of course I would be thrilled with another beautiful, healthy boy instead. I could have a lot of fun with three boys. But I might need some help cleaning up the pee.)

SCHOOL!!!

This week Alexander started preschool! He will go on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays in the afternoon. On Wednesday I went with him for orientation, where we went through a shortened schedule of their regular day. Today he went by himself for the first time. I have been rather dreading this day probably since before he was born, but I suppose it wasn't the end of the world... just the end of the world as I know it! My baby is growing up!

Alexander has just 5 kids in his class: 4 girls and himself. They have a wonderful teacher and an assistant teacher, so I certainly couldn't ask for a better student to teacher ratio. I think this will be awesome for Alexander's first school experience!

Alexander had no problem with me leaving him at preschool. I asked him, "Do you want me to stay for one minute or are you ready for me to go?" He told me to go. I said, "Would you like a hug or are you okay without one?" He was okay without one. As I walked out, the preschool director complimented me (and Alexander) on our easy transition on his first day. I am glad that he was confidant without me, but it would have been nice if he had at least wanted a hug!

Today Alexander got to be the special helper, which entails holding the flag for the Pledge of Allegiance, passing out cups and napkins at snack time, being the line-leader, updating the weather board and the calendar. So much responsibility! He also ate pretzels and drank apple juice, made a hand puzzle, listened to a story, did a couple of worksheets, played at the science center, and did not sing. At least... this is what I think he did, based on his report. He was a little hard to read as he was alternately being negative and positive. He told me that he hated preschool, but then he said he was lying. He said he was angry that he hadn't gotten to go on their "stupid" playground. But he also said that he had a really good time. He may have just been letting off steam after behaving himself at preschool, because as the children were released to the parents, Miss Jackie informed us that all the kids were "rock stars" and that they had acted as though they had been going to preschool for years. So I'll take that as a good sign and hope for even better next week.

Alexander behaved himself so well this week, despite lots of changes to his normal routine, that he earned a trip to look at Halloween costumes with Daddy. They may not be purchasing anything yet, but Alexander has LOTS of ideas as to what he might dress up as. Stay tuned! ;)

Jack's birthday party

Here's a few pictures from Jack's little birthday party. He tried to help blow up balloons for the party, he ate an amazing amount of candy, and he actually blew out his candles by himself!

TWO!

Just a couple shots of Jack on his REAL birthday, enjoying an ice cream sandwich. Nothing exciting today, but we're having his party tomorrow. :)

Almost Two!

On Wednesday we celebrated Jack's coming birthday at one of his favorite places, Chuck E. Cheese. We were joined by friends Alex, Collin, Mackensie, and their Mommy Kathryn. Thanks, guys! Jack loves Chuck E. Cheese and recognizes the building. If you dare to drive past it and not take him in he will NOT be amused. He knows to stick out his left arm for a stamp upon entering; he knows how to use the tokens and he loves Chuck E. Cheese pizza. For his birthday, he finally reached a new milestone of being able to climb up the platforms into the tunnels. He's been trying for a while now and was just tall enough this time to make it up. He was thrilled to be running around up there. He also had cake, played most of the games, made several important phone calls to Chuck, and got some candy with his prize tickets. By the end of our time there, he was laying on the floor exhausted, and he fell asleep on the car ride home. I guess the boy knows how to party!
