Irish Eyes are Smiling

Well, my kids do have at least a little Irish blood! Yesterday for Saint Patrick's Day they made some special green hats with pots of gold, rainbows, and shamrocks. Alexander then ran around saying, "Luck of the Irish" and "Top of the morning to ya," in a very bad accent. We did not, however, manage to dye anything green or eat corned beef and cabbage for dinner. Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

Alexander's morning

Alexander's such an... interesting kid. First, we have this scenario. He had just gone to the bathroom and was taking a little long after I had heard the flush. This is never a good sign. So I go into the bathroom and am overwhelmed by the smell... of deodorant.

Me: Alexander, what are you doing?
A: I went poop. Then I put on some "odorant" to get rid of the stinky. Do I smell good?

A little later, I had layed out his clothes on his bed and gone into my room to get some laundry ready.
A: I want to get dressed in your room!
Me: Okay, bring your clothes in here.
A: Can you do it for me?
Me: No, I think you can do it yourself. I'm getting the laundry ready.
A: I can't do it. I'm too lazy.

Stinky and lazy. A fine catch for any lady. ;)

Jack's 18 month checkup

I took Jack in for his 18 month checkup today, and overall he's doing very well. No shots today, either! He is now 33.25 inches tall (75th %) and 25.5 pounds (50th %). So, I'm thinking that Alexander will always be taller, even though I've already warned him that one day, when they're teenagers or grown-ups, Jack might be taller than him! Developmentally, he's right on track or above average except in one area: communication. I guess he's officially the strong, silent type. ;) In all seriousness, he did fall below the "line" for communication, such that the doctor gave me the number to call for Early Intervention Infants and Toddlers. However, she said that because he's on track with his receptive communitcation (he understands), that's she's not actually very worried about him. She said to wait 6 weeks before calling Infants and Toddlers and that if he hasn't added any words to his spoken vocabulary, to go ahead and call, bearing in mind that even at that point he might not qualify for services. I've mentioned before that it's Jack's way to wait to do something until he will be able to do it well, and I think this will be the case with speaking. I expect a big burst of spoken words sometime over the next couple of months. He's definitely made great progress in comprehension over the past 3 months, and I'm not too worried yet!

Who's Yer Mommy?

This isn't the greatest quality photo of me (it's a photo of a photo), but I think it best illustrates that Alexander looks more like me, while Jack looks more like Justin.

And to flash forward to the future, here's Alexander trying on my glasses and a quick shot of me as I look right now, at this VERY moment!

I'm using the same picture of Jack because the expression is perfect. Justin's probably a bit older here, but seriously... are they the same kid or what?

18 month comparison

I cut Jack's hair recently and caused him to look like an exact replica of his Daddy. I'll post that comparison later, but here's each of my boys at 18 months old. I tend to think my sons look nothing alike, but the only real differences are that Alexander was a much chubbier baby/toddler, Alexander has darker hair, and that they have different eyes. The nose, mouth, and face shape (minus chub) are basically the same!
